Fairfield University

Flowering trees and bright red flags welcomed us as we drove onto the campus.  I immediately saw the appeal.  The University buildings are attractive, well maintained, and nicely situated on the rolling landscape. Good looking, well dressed students gathered in small groups dotting the campus. It seemed like a picture-perfect poster for college.

William Pitt Health and Recreation Center

It was a beautiful, sunny April morning when we drove up to the Sacred Heart University campus in suburban Fairfield, CT. The compact campus has a “newer” feel with its low and mid-rise buildings. SHU was founded as a Catholic, commuter-college in 1964 and became a residential college only 20 years ago. Today it is primarily a residential university with 3,500 undergraduates.

Energy filled the air.

Rochester Institute of Technology

Rochester Institute of Technology

RIT’s nickname is “The Brick City” due to the preponderance of brick buildings throughout.  The campus looks more like a corporate park than a college campus on the outside, but once you go inside, the facilities are impressive on every front.  RITs top programs include engineering, video design, film and animation, visual arts and design, computer science, health sciences, natural sciences, and environmental sustainability.

Southern California, University of (USC) *Update

I had the opportunity to revisit USC with a group of independent consultants earlier this month.  We arrived the day after Steven Spielberg dedicated the new film building.  A few highlights related to USC’s highly competitive and esteemed Cinematic Arts major.  Students require 3 letters of recommendation, one academic and 2 others.  It is best if the letters come from someone who can speak to the candidate’s talent for storytelling.
