Our Services

Initial Consultation

We start with an initial consultation designed to assess a student’s progress to date. It is also an opportunity for College Bound Mentor to get to know the student better and develop a personalized plan for success. Specifically, we will:

  • Evaluate the student’s academic and extracurricular history–including transcript, test scores, extracurricular activities, community service, and outside interests.
  • Identify strengths and potential gaps in student’s record.
  • Develop a one year plan including strategies, recommendations for coursework, activities, summer experiences, college visits, community service and internships.

Application Mentor Package

The majority of our clients opt for this package because we mentor students through the entire process. Specifically, College Bound Mentor works with students to:

  • Meet for an Initial Consultation
  • Refine and implement curriculum plans, testing schedules and extracurricular activities
  • Select summer activities, community service projects, employment and internships
  • Create, Review, or Revise College List based on personal needs of student and family
  • Plan college visits and list of questions to ask while at schools
  • Prepare the “Activity Listing/Resume”–a detailed list of extracurricular activities; awards, honors, and accomplishments; employment and internships; community service; summer activities; hobbies and interests
  • Select and approach teachers for letters of recommendation
  • Develop their personal statement, highlighting individual strengths and unique points of differentiation
  • Work on supplemental essays
  • Conduct mock interviews
  • Break down applications and develop plan for each component/section
  • Review financial aid packages and identify best value for student and family goals
  • Help students make final decision

Essay Assistance

Having trouble finding your voice?  Not sure how to tell your story?  We can help.

College Bound Mentor Essay Specialists work with students in-person or remotely strictly on the essay. We do not write essays for students, but provide questions and suggestions to guide the student through the process. We review and revise the essay until the student’s voice comes through and the essay communicates the key characteristics of the student.  We focus on the goal of providing a clear, positive, and holistic picture of the student to the admissions committee.

Grad School & Career

Thinking about what’s next? Uncertain how all your experiences fit together?  We can help.

Grad School

We work with a wide range of students on developing a plan and crafting the personal statement and supplementary essays for graduate school. We have successfully worked with students to gain admissions to medical school, law school, business school, and graduate schools in public health and allied health sciences.

We have partnered with Alex Leventhal of Prep MBA. Alex is one of only three MBA admissions consultants to be in the Poets & Quants Hall of Fame. He has been an MBA Admissions consultant since 2005. As one of the most experienced professionals in the industry, he has helped hundreds of applicants achieve their goal of acceptance into a highly-ranked MBA program.

Career

College Bound Mentor will sit down with the student and develop possible career goals based on interests and strengths. We will also discuss various pathways to achieve their goals.

  • College Bound Mentor was incredibly helpful to our family as my daughter went through high school and was accepted at a great university. They helped us choose a good curriculum in the high school, and gave excellent advice about standardized testing. The overall process was much less stressful than it would have been without them. My daughter will be attending a great school that fits her really well.

  • I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done to make this hellish process easy and fun, and I feel bad for anyone who doesn’t have a CBM team at their side. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be picking my first semester classes for Dickinson tomorrow!

  • Lisa has worked with me and my siblings for years now and she's remained a friend and resource for us. I attribute my 10 college acceptances and subsequent scholarships to her amazing essay assistance and application guidance. It's now 5 years after I worked with Lisa for undergrad apps and she was the first one I thought of reaching out to now that I am looking into masters programs. Whether I desperately need the assistance or not, I believe the help I'm receiving is more than worth it.

  • Sorry for the long, overdue thank you for helping our son through the college application process. Needless to say, the outcome for him was excellent and he is excited to attend CMU and to be swimming on their team next fall.  We know that you two played a critical role in many ways, but most importantly helping him unpack and clarify his personal positioning early on and then coaching him to reflect this in the numerous essays and application documents produced over the past 9 months.  As parents we are proud of his many accomplishments and appreciate you helping to put these in the best possible light. His applications were compelling in a very competitive environment. Your expertise, feedback and project management guidance made a big difference.    So thank you both for your patience and support as we know you have a lot of students and feel we had the best of the best working with our son.

  • I can’t thank you enough for all of your help and guidance with my daughter's Personal Statement! She is SO happy with how it turned out! I’m truly grateful to you for helping her to express herself and show her commitment to her education as well as her true desire to help others.

  • Just realized that we never took the time to thank you for all the work you've done with our daughter over the past couple of years. The support you've given her has been invaluable. We are obviously happy for her and proud of her achievements, but I must say that having someone besides her parents to keep her on track and advise her has been the best part of it. It definitely preserved our relationship with her during those precious last years having her at home. We'll definitely be in touch very soon as her brother will be a Sophomore in the Fall, and we'd like to start the process then as we did for our daughter.
