Florida Atlantic University
Florida Atlantic University is a state university located in suburban Boca Raton. With 49% of the 30,000-student population coming from minority backgrounds, FAU is the most diverse school within the state university system. There are also a number of commuter students on campus. Located just two miles from the Atlantic Ocean and less than two hours from Miami, FAU works hard to keep students engaged.
Academics
FAU’s main campus is in Boca Raton and this is where over 70% of students begin their academic career. Ocean Engineering is a strong program as is Architecture. Students in this 5-year program begin in Boca and then finish in the school of Architecture located in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
FAU offers exceptional programs for academic success for all students. Study Lounge Sessions are hosted Monday -Thursday in the residence lounges for both residential and commuter students. These sessions are aimed at helping students with traditionally difficult first-year courses. Get Wise is an after-hours student support service center. The center serves as a ‘one-stop shop’ for academic and career assistance and is available in the residence halls daily from 4-9 PM. The First and Proud program focuses on success for first generation college students.
FAU has two honors colleges and Interested students apply directly to these colleges.
- Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College is a free-standing university-affiliated college of 1300 students located in Jupiter, FL. Admitted students live in this residential, liberal arts environment for all four years.
- University Honors Program includes small seminar classes for honors students as part of the overall curriculum on the main campus.
Social Life
While only 4,000 students reside in the suite-style dorms located on the main campus, the university swells to 30,000 when including the local community taking classes here and satellite campuses. Boasting 18 Division 1 sports teams, a huge entertainment and sports complex, a 2,500-seat performing arts center, 300 on-campus clubs and student organizations and an active Greek life, FAU has much to offer students looking for a less traditional college campus.
Student Body
Racially, ethnically and culturally diverse. Many first-generation students motivated by opportunities and support offered at FAU. Large commuter population.
Surrounding Area
