Marymount Manhattan : Learning Support
Marymount Manhattan is a small liberal arts college, approximately 2,000 undergraduate students, located in the heart of Manhattan. It is a city campus and there are three dorm option; one on 55th Street, a building used by a few different colleges at the 92nd Street Y and a building on Roosevelt Island offering suite style rooms.
Approximately 800 students live on campus. The popular majors are: theater, dance (both require auditions), communication arts, business and psychology. Students complete a liberal arts core curriculum and their major program of study. The college is a good choice for a creative, driven, student who is looking to utilize New York City for its entertainment, cultural, and internship opportunities.
Marymount Manhattan College: Academic Access
Academic Access is a fee-based program designed to foster academic success for students with learning disabilities. The staff is comprised of six learning specialists and a math tutor. In addition to providing the students accommodations the program includes:
- Two hours of weekly tutoring
- Academic advisement and counseling
- Coaching devoted to social and emotional problems related to learning disabilities
- Technical Support
- Study Groups
- “Buddy”-an upper classman assigned their first semester to help them with their transition to college
- Parent’s Group
The director of the program reaches out to faculty for progress reports and is very willing to conference with the parents if the student has signed a release. The documentation guidelines are very specific and can be found on their website.
